The Moonshot AI Open Platform is the API and open-weight channel for Kimi models (K2, K2.5, K3), used by developers and platform teams integrating Kimi into their own applications. Moonshot has not published SOC 2 reports, a HIPAA agreement, or EU data processing terms for the hosted API; the service runs on China-based infrastructure, so submitted data is subject to Chinese data law unless self-hosted elsewhere. K2 (1 trillion parameters) and K3 (2.8 trillion) are open-weighted under a modified MIT-style license, allowing self-hosting in a certified US/EU cloud region, though providers exceeding $20 million in revenue require a separate agreement. The Mixture-of-Experts architecture activates a small parameter fraction per token; published weights support quantization and fine-tuning, though hosting K3 needs substantial GPU memory. This licensing permits self-hosting.
