Bloomberg is a financial, software, data and media organization. The firm acquired New Energy Finance in 2009, which later became BloombergNEF. Many of its ESG and climate data sets build on its news and financial products. For example, BloombergNEF integrates insights from industry, finance and policy into energy transition research and products. Bloomberg has also formed partnerships to expand its climate offerings. Most recently, in 2023, it integrated physical climate risk data from Riskthinking.ai and the Biodiversity Intactness Index from the UK Natural History Museum into its data products. These data sets, along with Bloomberg’s other climate and ESG data, are available for all users – whether they are interested in climate data or not – in the Bloomberg Terminal, alongside traditional market and financial data. Clients can also access data via APIs, programming tools and third-party systems, with a data licence for enterprise-wide use.
